Once again today was all about wood; seems like there is a theme here… I had numerous logs and even a few trees that were down that needed to be cut to length and then the real work, stacked to dry. WOW, then I realized that some older downed logs needed to be split. Nothing like working a splitting maul to let you know how out of shape you are…

Yesterday was a day of cutting and clearing; lots of downed trees from the winter of 2017/2018. Today was the next step of cleaning up all those branches and tree parts that are aren’t even worth cutting for the wood stove…
The first thing I neded was to get water to the burn spot. I hadn’t even tried to get water from these faucets but it was needed so…
Down the hole I go! This is the pump house and where the pressure tank is located. I also found that there is a valve that supplies the water to the faucets in the garden area. One leaked when I opened things up, but I just hooked the hose to it and off I went…And now needed I get the pile burning and keep it burning. At times this was easier said than done as the recent rains had everything rather wet AND most of this pile was green! I pinged a couple of the neighbors that had done this before for tips and wow were they spot on. It still took time and effort but I got the burn going then just had to feed the beast!
Almost 5 hours to get this all done; and tomorrow I get to gather, cut up and burn more; MAYBE. So busy today there was no property walk or even a chance to throw a few arrows.. Such is life sometimes…

I try to walk the property on a daily basis, not only to get to know my property intimately but to get some much needed “relaxation” time. So I’ll make the effort to add a pic or two from those walks…
Today I found a very likely spot for an archery ground blind that sits along a major game trail that runs through the property. I know, it looks like a bunch of downed tree limbs, but with a bit of cleanup it’ll become a great ground blind. More to come on this if I do actually make this happen…
Here is a shot of the game trail in question; I see both Deer and Elk droppings as I walk along it and I have high hopes of getting the activity documented and hopefully a few pictures from the trail cams. More to come as summer moves along. Speaking of Summer; it was 65 degrees today. The warmest day of 2018 so far in the American Redoubt!
